Environment is today one of the major social issues. As awareness of environmental risks increases, effective environmental adaptation has also become a necessity in every company's action program - and at the same time an important means of competition.

The laundry association takes an active part in environmental work through our sustainability policy and we place great importance on internal information and training of the member companies, while also working to raise the awareness of manufacturers, suppliers and customers.
Our member companies have entered the 2010s as environmentally conscious, viable companies with environmentally friendly methods and techniques. The textile service industry offers a more sustainable alternative to disposable items or washing work clothes at home or in the workplace. Recycling is included in every step of the services that textile service companies offer.
One example is that damaged garments are very often repaired when handled by professional textile service companies, while 51% of consumers change into new workwear if they break, according to a 2014 survey by ETSA.
In professional textile service, all packaging is also recycled or reused, which is not yet the case in most households.
According to another study by ETSA, the average climate impact from washing work clothes has decreased by about 7% during the period 2007 and 2011.
Greenhouse gas emissions now amount to 510 g CO2e / kg for work clothes and 440 g CO2e / kg for linen.
The calculation of the carbon footprint includes the entire process; from the consumption of fuels for transport to the climate impact from the consumption of electricity, fuels, water and chemicals - including upstream processes.

Exterior and interior environment
Environmental issues are an integral part of daily work. Similarly, work environment issues must be integrated.
Machinery
When selecting machines, their impact on both the working environment and the external environment must be taken into account. The manufacturer should state the environmental impact of the manufacturing process and the possibility of recycling.
Chemicals and production methods
Chemicals and production methods should be selected that minimize emissions to the external and internal environment. Environmental criteria for professionally used detergents must be taken into account.
energy issues
Consumption of water, solvents, detergents, electricity, oil, gas etc. must be made more efficient. This also applies to various forms of transport. Driving should be minimized.
Source sorting and recycling
Opportunities for source sorting and recycling must be observed. This includes packaging materials, chemicals, paper, plastics and textiles. The amount of disposable items should be reduced.
Knowledge of environmental issues
The staff must have knowledge of environmental issues. Both companies and staff must comply with current and future legislation.
